“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an overflowing
stream.” (Amos 5:24)
Justice, Love and Mercy are the essence of our Christian living. On the 19th day of August 2018, the Archdiocese of Bombay celebrates Justice Sunday.
The creation story in the Book of Genesis has a strong emphasis on the relationships between Self, God,Others and Creation. As human persons, we have failed to“Respect” these relationships.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) Office for Justice, Peace and Development has aptly chosen “I Respect You” as a theme for this year’s Justice Sunday celebration.“I Respect You” would therefore mean having respect for life, traditions, culture, religion, caste and creed, and also creation. It is all encompassing theme that basically flows from the love of God for all humanity, and stems from our respect and love for ourselves – “Love your neighbour as yourself.”(Mark 12:31)
I therefore urge all parishes, institutions, community centres, cells and associations, and every individual to celebrate and make this theme as part of your life and not just an event for a day.
