For nine years now, the Annual Global Rosary Relay - a prayer initiative of Worldpriest (www.worldpriest.com) - has been observed on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. More than 150 Marian shrines and parishes all over the world are linked in this relay!
Worldpriest is a lay organisation of professional communications people founded in 2003 by Marion Mulhall, a lay Carmelite, to ‘affirm the dignity, beauty and gift of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ to Humanity’. The inspiration to create this apostolate came from Pope St. John Paul’s announcement of a World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests to be held annually on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Marion and her team went one step further with the Annual Global Rosary Relay. The idea is a simple one: each of the participating shrines around the world prays a particular mystery of the Rosary at a particular half hour in thanksgiving to God for our priests and to implore the protection and loving care of Our Lady, for all her priestly sons. This way, the entire world is encircled in prayer, for 24 hours, for priests.
Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay and President of The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), welcomed the organiser’s request to participate in this Rosary Relay. Accordingly, as reported by Bishop John Rodrigues, Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay and Rector, Basilica of Our Lady of Mount, Bandra, the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary were prayed at the Basilica, June 8, 2018, from 6pm to 7 pm, followed by Eucharistic Adoration. May our priests always enjoy the protection of our Blessed Mother, Mary, and be inspired by the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
