Mysore Priests Conferred Award by Newspapers Association of India

On October 30, Fr. Joseph was honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for social work by the Newspapers Association of India, October 30, at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi. Union Minister Oscar Fernandes conferred the award.

Fr. Joseph has rendered yeomen service to society for more than thirty years, particularly to women and girls in distress through his centre called Distress Call Mission A qualified counselor, Fr. Joseph has been just a call away and has served people without distinction of caste, community or creed. The people who are served by his work include victims of dowry harassment, unwed mothers; those harassed for inter caste marriages, addictions and those who have attempted suicide.  While his phone counseling services were limited to Mysore and its surroundings, he has now extended his reach to Bangalore also.

His family donated nearly 30 acres of land in Kamagere, Chamrajnagar District, where Fr. S D Joseph set up St Margaret’s Girls Composite College which caters to the needs of about 100 girls studying in high and higher secondary schools.
