Mass in Memory of Thomas Aquino d’ Sequeira Held

Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio presided over a concelebrated Eucharist at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, here, October 7, to pay homage and pray for Fr Thomas Aquino d’ Sequeira, former Deputy Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) who died at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Tracy, California on September 9. Archbishop Albert D’Souza, Secretary General, CBCI, Bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas, and over twenty priests and some 150 Religious and Faithful participated in the Eucharist.
Archbishop Pennacchio recalled the faithfulness and commitment of Fr Thomas, while Archbishop Albert D’Souza in his homily highlighted his qualities and dedication, and exhorted Christ’s disciples to live in the hope of resurrection. Union Minister Oscar Fernandes while paying tribute to him, thanked God for the gift of Fr Thomas to the Church in Goa and to the whole of India and his dedicated service.
Archbishop Anil J.T. Couto of Delhi recalled the dynamism and qualities of mind and heart that Thomas possessed even from a young age. He recalled his days together with Thomas in the seminary. Fr. Joseph Chinnayyan, Deputy Secretary General of the CBCI, who organised the commemorative Mass, spoke of the human and priestly qualities that endeared Fr Thomas Aquino d’ Sequeira to all those who knew him.
