Fr Anthony Fernandes New Laity Commission Secretary

Bangalore 1 May, 2018: Fr Anthony J Fernandes (52) from the Archdiocese of Bombay was appointed as the Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Laity. Currently he is the parish priest of St. Teresa’s Church, Girgaum, Mumbai and the Manager of St. Teresa’s School, Mumbai.

The appointment was made in the 79 Executive Committee meeting of the CCBI held on 1 May, 2018, Bangalore. Fr Fernandes was the former Youth Director of the Bombay Archdiocese and the Executive Secretary of the Youth Commission of the Western Regional Bishops’ Council.

He was born on 8 May, 1966, Mumbai. He holds Master’s Degrees in Sociology and in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Mumbai University. He worked as an accounts clerk at St Anne’s High School, Borivli, Mumbai and Executive in the Rotana Group, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.

He joined St. Pius College Goregaon for his priestly studies and ordained priest on 2 April, 2005. He served the Archdiocese of Bombay as the assistant Parish Priest at Our Lady of Lourdes Church–Orlem, Malad, Mumbai, Director of the Archdiocesan Youth Centre, Archdiocesan Vocation Promoter, Assistant at St Joseph’s Church, Goregaon, Mumbai, Member of the Commissions for Proclamation, Inter-Religious, Ecumenism and the Ecclesiastical advisor of the Women’s Commission.
