Former CBCI deputy secretary general passes away

Fr. Thomas Sequeira, who last year retired as the deputy secretary general of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), passed away in California early today. He breathed his last at 1.50 am in a hospital in California. The 60-year-old priest was in the US for his doctoral studies and was helping in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tracy, California. He was admitted in the hospital two months ago with an advanced stage colon cancer.
Ever since he was in the hospital, underwent a surgery and was undergoing chemotherapy till date. Fr Sequeira, who belonged to the Goa Archdiocese, assumed office as deputy secretary general of CBCI in 2006. He was the former rector of the nearly 400-year-old Rachol Seminary in Goa and holds a doctorate in Sacred Scriptures. He has been on the team which translated the Holy Bible into Konkani in Roman script. The details of the funeral are yet to be finalised as the body is to be flown from the US to Goa on one of these days.
Meanwhile, his mother too passed away in Goa at the age of 92 on August 18, 2013.
