Cardinal Oswald elected new president of the CBCI

Oswald Cardinal Gracias of the Archdiocese of Bombay has been elected the new President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) and Most Rev. Joshua Mar Ignathios Metropolitan Bishop of Mavelikkara as the new First Vice President .
The elections were held at the 33rd General Body Meeting on Thursday, 7th February 2018, at St. John’s National Academy for Medical Sciences, Bengaluru.
This is Cardinal Gracias’ second term as CBCI President. In 2010, he was elected President. Earlier, on 20th February 2008, was elected 1st Vice President of CBCI. Prior to this he had served as Secretary General.
