Cardinal Cleemis dialogues with Hindu leader
Sept. 4, 2013
Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, head of worldwide Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and youngest Roman Catholic Cardinal, and distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed met in Reno (Nevada, USA) on September 1. The meeting was held at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church Reno. Cardinal Cleemis and Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, discussed issues of common interest and efforts at promoting interfaith dialogue.
Rajan Zed points out that serious and honest interfaith dialogue is the need of the hour. Religion is the most powerful, complex and far-reaching force in our society, so we must take it seriously, Zed adds. Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, whose foundation goes back to St. Thomas, one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, has about half-a-million members.
Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents.
