Archbishop Menamparampil Appointed Apostolic Administrator of Jowai

Pope Francis has appointed Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil, SDB, Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati, as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Jowai in the Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. This Ecclesiastical Provision was made public in Rome on Monday, 3rd February, 2014.
The diocese of Jowai was without a bishop since the death of its first Bishop Vincent Kympat in 2011. The diocese has 81,242 Catholics, 28 priests, 40 sisters and 19 religious brothers.
Archbishop Menamparampil who retired from the archdiocese of Guwahati has worked several years in Meghalaya and is familiar with the pastoral needs of the people of Jaintia Hills.
