Appointment of Rev. Fr. Jose Puthenveettil as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly

The Synod of the Syro-Malabar Major Archiepiscopal Church, gathered at Mount St. Thomas, Kerala, having received prior Papal Assent according to CCEO can. 184, canonically elected to the office of Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Ernakulam-Angamaly Rev. Fr. Jose Puthenveettil, till now Syncellus of the same Archeparchy. The newly elected Auxiliary Bishop succeeds Right Rev. Thomas Chakiath, whose resignation from the same office was accepted by the Synod according to CCEO 210 § 1. The Holy Father Pope Francis has assigned to the Auxiliary Bishop-Elect the Titular See of Rusubbicari. This Ecclesiastical Provision was made public in Rome on Friday, 23rd August, 2013, at noon local time, corresponding to 15:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.
