Laity Sunday

June 16, 2017

Sunday, 25 June 2017, Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A) is being celebrated as LAITY SUNDAY in our Archdiocese, and in our country.

In his Apostolic letter, Misericordia et Misera (Mercy and Misery), issued by Pope Francis at the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy on 20 November 2016, the Holy Father states: The Jubilee now ends, and the Holy Door is closed. But the door of mercy of our heart continues to remain wide open (No. 16). This year, therefore, we continue to make a special effort to focus on how our lay faithful can continue the spiritual and corporal works of mercy in their homes, parishes and society at large.

The CCBI Laity Commission has proposed that we reflect on the witness of St Thomas More as a lay person with the courage to be faithful to the Gospel. I urge all Parish Priests to celebrate Laity Sunday by using these guidelines, adapted and sent by our Archdiocesan Office for Lay Collaboration in Ministry, praying in a special way for the Cells and Associatioons in the Parish, that they may seek new avenues for witnessing to God’s mercy. That same evening, the Heads of these Cells and Associations are invited to gather at Dr. Antonio D’Silva High School, Dadar (West) at 5 pm, for a Diocesan Rally, presided over by Bishop John Rodrigues.
