BISHOPS’ SEMINAR, SARVODAYA CAPACITY BUILDING CENTRE, GOREGAON SEMINARY COMPLEX, MUMBAI

33 Bishops, ordained in the last ten years, from various Dioceses across India, have come together for five days of prayer and reflection on their role in the mission of the Catholic Church in India, reflected in both Church-related issues as well as the commitment of the Church to society at large.

Their time will be spent in reflections and discussions that will help them in understanding the role and purpose of The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI).  The seminar will also include the study and discernment of their roles with respect to Administration, Canon law, Documentation and Maintenance of Archives, Financial Management, Formation of priests and seminarians, Conflict Management, and fostering right relationships between bishops, priests, religious and laity. 

Time will also be spent in comprehending the role of the church in nation building, inter-religious dialogue and dialogue among other churches. The relevance and impact of new media on the lives of people is another area which will be covered at the conference. 

While at the conference, the Bishops attended a special Eucharistic Adoration on March 13, 2018, the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ election as Successor to Peter / to the Papacy / Pontificate. They prayed for the Pope’s well-being and for God’s blessing on him as he continues to lead the Holy Catholic Church.

March 14, 2018, is being observed as a day of Pilgrimage when the Bishops will visit Mount Mary Basilica, Bandra and St Michael’s Church, Mahim.  The day will conclude with the celebration of the Eucharist, at the Cathedral of the Holy Name, presided over by the Most Reverend Giambattista Diquattro, Apostolic Nuncio to India.  This will be followed by a dinner hosted by His Eminence, Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay.
