The Archdiocese of Bombay Launches its First Ever Android App
March 5, 2014
The Archdiocese of Bombay has now carved space for itself on the Google Play Store with its dedicated Android App. The ‘App’lication will be launched by the Archbishop of Bombay, Cardinal Oswald Gracias on March 5, 2014, Ash Wednesday - the beginning of the season of Lent - in an endeavour to reach out to the faithful, especially the youth, through the medium that they have grown most comfortable with.
The App provides links to a wealth of information: Prayer, the Rosary (in both text and audio format) Bible Stories, FAQs (information about administration of the Sacraments), Notices and Officials, Catechesis for the year of the Eucharist, and, in Lent, the Stations of the Cross. The novel ‘Carbon Fast’ for the 40 days of Lent can also be followed using the App.
What’s more, you can ‘Find a Church’ near you with information regarding Mass timings and Office timings. Prayer Requests, for personal intentions, will be accepted and prayed by a dedicated team. In its content, the App provides information that is both spiritual and practical for the Catholic Way of Life. The information will be updated regularly, to ensure a dynamic experience for users.
A recent report by the IAMAI and IMRB International states that there are about 110 million monthly internet users in India. With people leading increasingly busy lives, it is essential that the Catholic Church in India takes steps towards ensuring that it is able to provide every opportunity to spread the Word of God. The Season of Lent is the perfect time to invite Christians to reconnect through Word, Worship and Witness. With 128 Parishes and over Five Lakh parishioners, the Archdiocese of Bombay covers Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad District, and Mumbai City. The aim is to place the Word of God in the palm of the hand and ensure that people can stay connected on the go.
The App will be administered and monitored by the Catholic Communication Centre, an initiative of the Archdiocese to ensure that technology is harnessed optimally for a vibrant and involved Church of the people.
Note: To download this App, visit the Google Play Store from your Android device, click on https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aob (the Archdiocese of Bombay link) and install.
